Our Development Plan

The Land

We will be looking for a farm or ranch in the British Columbia interior for our mixed co-operative, minimum of 250 acres, in climate zone 5A or 5B. On the property, we will have a hay crop, an extensive raised bed garden, an apiary, goats, chickens and ducks, possibly including cows for silvoculture (silvopasture), member housing, and geodesic domes for guests. Amongst our focuses is regenerative soil techniques and composting, permaculture planning, and housing options for fire-prone areas.

Housing

Housing for full members (those who live on the property year-round) will be provided by the co-operative in the form of Dwelly pre-fab CSA A277 modular homes (3 bedroom layout) or, in limited circumstances, other pre-existing housing. Dwelly's were selected because they are perfect for areas of potential wildfires, equipped with a steel roof and HardiePlank siding.

Guest Domes

We plan on having approximately ten geodesic domes on the property for paying guests, built with designs from Trillium Domes. These are available to guests who are vacationing or attending our educational programs on permaculture and closed-loop gardening.

Businesses

There is a potential to create separate businesses for various areas of operations, such as the apiary, apothecary, hay sales, an education group who will help others get started with home gardening, and a woodshop capable of building furniture. We are planning an extensive solar array that will put electricity into the grid rather than us being a drain on the grid, plus we will be selling chicken and duck eggs, as well as meat chickens.
